James Munton’s school assembly programs receive the highest praise from educators, students and parents. CyberSense: Think Before You Click! is his popular program for middle and high school audiences.
He has appeared on ABC, NBC and Fox News and has been featured in articles in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and The Dallas Morning News. James has performed at the White House three times, for the Vice President, the Secretary of State, the U.S. Treasurer, for senators and ambassadors and at hundreds of events each year.
While other children played soccer in the park, James spent his formative years in the company of London’s cardsharpers learning how to be a card “mechanic.” A local magician steered his talents in a more honest direction and, following an apprenticeship in the art of legerdemain, James began performing magic professionally in 1993.
After graduating from university, James taught at schools in England and Japan while developing his entertainment business. Since moving to the United States in 1997, James has provided educational entertainment to hundreds of thousands of students.
James has made a lifelong study of scams and cons. His book The Con: How Scams Work, Why You’re Vulnerable and How to Protect Yourself was published by Rowman & Littlefield.
As a national speaker on the subject, James helps individuals and organizations keep their personal information secure. In response to the huge problem of child identity theft, James created a program for middle and high school students. He realized that cyberbullying, sexting and online predators all have a common link: young people are sharing too much information online, often without thinking of the dire consequences.
CyberSense: Think Before You Click! is a 40-minute assembly program that teaches children about online risks and then presents them with easily implemented solutions to protect themselves.
James is a member of the National Association of Bunco Investigators and is past president of the national capital branch of both the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians.
